Concrete fence with relief on both sides — what the options are
Konkret Line models are single-sided: the relief is on the front face of the panel, and the back is unfinished — it can stay that way or be skimmed. If you want relief both outside and inside, mention it in your enquiry.
All 22 Konkret Line models are single-sided: the relief is on the front face of the panel, and the back is unfinished. A fence is usually chosen from a photo of the front. What you will see from your own garden becomes a question later — on the shared boundary with a neighbour or on the street-facing section.
What does a fence with relief on both sides mean?
Panels for a precast concrete fence are cast in moulds, and the relief comes from the mould itself. On a single-sided panel the decorative surface is only on the front face, while the back stays unfinished. On a double-sided fence the relief is visible both from the street and from the garden.
In principle, there are two ways to achieve this result:
- a double-sided panel — cast with relief on both sides;
- two layers of single-sided panels — installed back to back, so that the face of one looks outwards and the face of the other inwards.
Are Konkret Line models double-sided?
No — all 22 models in the catalogue are single-sided: the relief is formed on the front face of the panel, and its back is unfinished. This is also stated in the model descriptions — see models and prices.
The four openwork models of the Aero Line series are different — Lights with round openings, Avalon with horizontal louvres and slots between them, Visio with three elongated openings in each panel and Space with small square openings between interwoven bands. On these the openings go right through the panel, so their rhythm reads from both sides of the fence.

What does the back look like, and can it be finished?
The back is an unfinished concrete surface with no relief, on which the posts and the joints between the panels are visible. It can stay that way.
If you want a more finished look on that side, the back is skimmed with a thin layer of adhesive with embedded exterior fibreglass mesh. This is not part of the assembly and can be done at any time afterwards. The warranty applies provided the fence is not treated with unsuitable materials — for example oils, or cement in the joints between the panels; the full terms are set out in the warranty card.
The back can also be hidden with greenery — a hedge or shrubs in front of the fence.
Which way should the front face?
With a single-sided panel this is decided before assembly.
- towards the street — when what matters to you is how the property looks from outside; from the garden you see the unfinished back;
- towards the garden — along a side or rear boundary, where the fence is seen mostly by you;
- along a shared boundary with a neighbour — the relief is on one side, so agree in advance who gets which side, especially if you are sharing the costs.
Privacy is the same whichever you choose: on the solid models there are no gaps between the panels. State your choice in the enquiry. How the panels are stacked between the posts is described in the article how a precast concrete fence is assembled.
When does relief on both sides make sense?
In two cases:
- on the street-facing section, if you want the fence to look equally good from outside and from the garden;
- on a shared fence between two properties, when both neighbours want the decorative side.
With precast fences this result is, in principle, achieved with two layers of single-sided panels installed back to back. That way the relief is visible both from the street and from the garden.
Such a build is not included in the published prices or in the model descriptions — they refer to a fence with a single layer of panels, that is, with relief on one side. If relief on both sides matters to you, mention it in your enquiry — which section, what length and height — and we will tell you what is possible for your site.
What does each option give you?
| Option | What is seen from the other side | When it suits |
|---|---|---|
| Single-sided panel with an unfinished back | bare concrete with visible joints between the panels | when the fence is seen mainly from one side |
| Single-sided panel with a skimmed back | a flat skimmed surface | when the back faces your garden |
| Openwork model — Lights, Avalon, Visio or Space | the same openings and slots | when you want light and the same rhythm on both sides |
| Two layers of panels, back to back | relief on both sides | facing the street or on a shared boundary fence; on request |
How do you request a quote?
Browse the models and prices, and in the gallery — fences in real gardens; more answers are in the frequently asked questions. Then send an enquiry with the length of the fence, the desired height and which way the front face should look; if you want relief on both sides, say so explicitly. You usually receive a quote for the elements and transport within 4 working hours. If you would like installation, once you confirm the quote we also prepare an installation quote for your site.
